Definition of Caulk

Caulk is a substance, typically made of cotton or oakum, used to fill in the seams and joints of a watercraft to prevent water from entering. For instance, during the construction of a wooden boat, the caulker meticulously fills in the seams with the caulk material using a caulking iron.
