Definition of Derelict

A vessel that has been abandoned and is now adrift aimlessly at sea. This state can be caused by various reasons such as lack of crew or supplies, damage, or piracy.

For example, a fishing boat named ‘Sea Star’ was reported as derelict in the Atlantic Ocean. The vessel was found adrift without any crew or signs of distress. The cause of the dereliction is still under investigation.
