Nautical Term: Electro-hydraulic

Definition of Electro-hydraulic

Electro-hydraulic is a term used to describe hydraulic actuation systems where the hydraulic pressure is generated by electrically driven pumps. The hydraulic pressure is then controlled via solenoids.

For example, in a large construction crane, the electro-hydraulic system might be used to control the hydraulic cylinders that lift and lower the crane’s boom. The system might also be used to control other hydraulic functions on the crane, such as the winch or the outrigger stabilizers.
