Nautical Term: Electrode

Definition of Electrode

An electrode is a conductor that makes contact with a conductive solution or part to transfer an electrical charge. For instance, in a marine context, the electrodes in a galvanic anode system make contact with seawater, allowing an electrical current to flow between the anode and the cathode (usually the hull of the vessel), protecting the hull from corrosion.
