Definition of FEU

The nautical term FEU stands for Forty-foot Equivalent Unit. This term is used to describe the cargo carrying capacity of a ship, which is equivalent to the space occupied by forty standard 40-foot containers.

For example, if a ship has a cargo carrying capacity of 1000 FEU, it means that the ship can carry the same amount of cargo as 1000 standard 40-foot containers.
