Definition of Hood
A hood is a protective covering designed to fit over various openings on a vessel. These openings can include companion hatches, scuttles, or skylights. The hood provides shelter from the elements, such as rain, sun, or wind. It can also help to insulate the interior of the vessel, keeping it warmer in cold weather and cooler in hot weather.
