Definition of HP
_Horse Power_ (HP) is a unit of measurement used to express the power output of engines and other mechanical devices. This measurement was originally established by James Watt in the late 18th century. For instance, a sailboat with a main sail and jib that measures 30 feet long and has an average sail area of 570 square feet could potentially generate about 12.6 horsepower when sailing efficiently in a consistent wind condition.
