Definition of IAMSAR

The International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) Manual, also known as IAMSAR, is a comprehensive guideline that provides procedures for conducting aeronautical and maritime search and rescue operations. For instance, in the event of a distressed vessel in the high seas, the IAMSAR manual would provide guidance on the steps to be taken to locate the vessel, assess its condition, provide medical assistance if required, and arrange for the vessel to be towed to safety or for its passengers and crew to be rescued.
