Load line markings refer to distinct markings on a ship’s side, which denote the minimum freeboard required in various ocean areas and different seasons of the year. These markings are also known as Plimsoll markings.
For instance, a passenger ship sailing from the Caribbean to Europe during winter would require a greater freeboard to ensure the ship’s stability and safety during heavy seas and harsh weather conditions.
