Nautical Term: MSC

Definition of MSC

:The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) is an international body comprised of government representatives and industry experts. The MSC’s primary role is to ensure the safety of international shipping through the adoption and implementation of international safety measures.

For example, following a series of container ship fires, the MSC adopted new international safety measures for the packing, stowage, and handling of cargo, including dangerous goods. These new measures were then implemented by flag states and port states around the world to help prevent similar container ship fires from occurring in the future.
