Nautical Term: Perpendicular, after

Definition of Perpendicular, after

The ‘after perpendicular’ is a line drawn perpendicular to the keel line, but this time, it’s drawn tangent to the after contour of the stern. For instance, if a sailor needs to set up a anchor buoy in the water behind a ship, they would need to drop the buoy along the after perpendicular line to ensure that it remains perpendicular to the keel line and therefore properly aligned with the ship’s position.
