Nautical Term: Shore

Definition of Shore

[One of the numerous] wooden props, known as shores, are used to support the external frames or ribs of a vessel during its construction. Additionally, these shores can be employed to keep a vessel upright on the ways, allowing for maintenance and repairs.

For example: The shipyard workers diligently constructed the new vessel, employing numerous shores to support the external frames during the building process. Once completed, the vessel was carefully maneuvered onto the ways, where it was held upright by the same trusty shores, allowing the workers to carry out necessary repairs and maintenance.
