Definition of Speak

To engage in verbal communication with a nearby vessel for the purpose of exchanging essential information or coordinating actions between the two vessels.

For example: As the sun began to set, the captain of the schooner, ‘Sea Breeze,’ spotted another vessel, a tanker named, ‘Fuel Fortune,’ in the distance. By engaging in clear and effective communication, the captains of the ‘Sea Breeze’ and ‘Fuel Fortune’ were able to coordinate their actions and avoid potential collisions, ensuring the safety of their crews and cargo as they continued their voyages in the vast and complex world of the high seas.
