Definition of Thrust block
A thrust block is a critical component in the propulsion system of a ship. Located aft of the engine(s), the thrust block serves as a bearing arrangement, facilitating the transmission of the propeller’s thrust to the ship. In essence, the thrust block plays an indispensable role in ensuring the efficient and effective propulsion of a ship.
For instance, in a cargo ship with two engines, the thrust block would be situated between the engine’s output shaft and the propeller. When the engines power the ship forward, the thrust block facilitates the transfer of the engine’s output to the propeller, enabling the ship to move efficiently through the water.
