A turnbuckle is a mechanical device commonly employed in maritime applications, particularly with ropes or chains. The essential function of a turnbuckle is to adjust and take up any slack in the connected cable or chain. This is accomplished through the rotation of the turnbuckle around its threaded axis.
For instance, consider a ship’s rigging, which includes a multitude of ropes and stays that support the sails.
