Definition of Uptake
Uptake refers to the sheet metal conduit that connects the boiler furnace to the base of the smokestack. This crucial component conveys the smoke and hot gases from the boiler to the stack. To ensure efficient heat transfer and prevent radiation, the uptake is typically made double thickness with an air space between. Swinging dampers for controlling the fires are also fitted within the uptake.
