Definition of Berth term

A shipping rate or contract under which the stated price does not include the expenses related to the loading or unloading of the cargo. For instance, a freight forwarder negotiates a berth term contract with a shipping line, agreeing to pay the published freight rate, but the loading and unloading costs are not included in the published freight rate.
