Nautical Term: Bitts

Definition of Bitts

Bitts refer to a pair of robust, vertically mounted posts that are securely welded to a vessel’s deck. Mooring lines are typically fastened around these bitts.

For instance, upon arriving at a marina, a crewmember might secure their vessel’s mooring lines around the bitts before tying off the lines to prevent the boat from drifting.
