A Bos’n’s chair refers to a curved board suspended from a mast or rigging. It is designed to support a sailor or mariner working aloft, allowing them to swing back and forth for balance and to reach higher rigging points.

For instance, in a repair situation, the ship’s carpenter, securing himself in the bosun’s chair, hoists himself up the mainmast to assess and address any structural damage.
