The navigating bridge, also known as the flying bridge, is a raised platform situated at the highest point of the pilot house. This expansive bridge typically encompasses a narrow walkway, supported by stanchions, that spans the width of the ship. Additionally, the bridge incorporates the space above the pilot house, which houses duplicate sets of navigating instruments and controls for the steering gear and engine room signals. In good weather conditions, a ship can be navigated from this elevated platform, providing the crew with a clear view of the surroundings. Awnings and weather cloths fitted to the stanchions and railings offer protection against sun and wind, making the flying bridge a comfortable and practical space for navigating a ship.
