Definition of Watch officer

A watch officer is a designated marine officer who is responsible for overseeing a specific portion of a ship’s operational duties during their assigned watch. For instance, during a long voyage, the ship might be divided into four watch sectors. Each watch officer would be responsible for managing the crew, navigating the ship, and ensuring the safety and maintenance of the watch sector during their assigned watch.
