Definition of Bridges
A high transverse platform, commonly referred to as bridges, is positioned at the top of a bridge house on a ship. Extending from side to side and serving as an observation point, bridges offer a clear view of the weather deck.
An enclosed space known as the pilot house is erected on the bridge. Navigating instruments such as the compass and binnacle, control for the steering apparatus, and signals to the engine room are installed in the pilot house.
The bridge is the hub of ship operations, and the pilot house is where navigating instruments are located and where decisions are made regarding the ship’s course and speed.
When the pilot house is mentioned, it’s important to note that it’s not the only space on the bridge. The bridge may also include additional facilities such as a radio room, chart room, or even staterooms for the captain and crew.
