Nautical Term: BUNKERS

Definition of BUNKERS

The term ‘bunkers’ is used to describe vessels that carry and transport Fuel and Diesel Oil supplies. This name originates from the coal bunkers that were used to store coal on ships before the widespread use of oil for fuel.

For example, the Suezmax tanker Bunker Star departs from the oil terminal in Rotterdam, Netherlands, carrying a cargo of 180,000 barrels of diesel oil. This cargo will be delivered to customers in the Mediterranean region, and will help to meet the growing demand for diesel oil in that region.
