Nautical Term: CMG

Definition of CMG

Course Made Good, often abbreviated as CMG, represents the actual direction a vessel is traveling, relative to its true heading or desired course.

For instance, suppose a sailboat initially sets sail with a true north heading of 360 degrees. However, due to various factors such as currents or wind, the boat begins to drift off its true course. At any given moment, the course made good represents the actual direction the sailboat is traveling at that instant, regardless of its true heading or desired course.
