Nautical Term: DRK

Definition of DRK

DRK is a nautical term derived from the name Derrick, which originally referred to a type of crane. In a naval context, DRK is used to describe a darkened condition of a ship or an area around a ship. For instance, during nighttime maneuvers, a ship’s navigation team may order all lights on the ship to be switched off, except for the essential navigation lights, to ensure a complete DRK condition.
