Definition of Wharfage

Wharfage refers to the fee that the proprietor of a docking facility imposes for facilitating the transfer of cargo from the means of transportation to the facility, or vice versa.

For instance, During the loading process of the container ship at the commercial port, the shipping company incurred a significant wharfage fee, which increased the overall transportation cost of the cargo.
