Nautical Term: Fairing or Fairing up
Definition of Fairing or Fairing up
Fairing or Fairing up refers to the process of correcting or adjusting the lines or structural members of a ship to ensure they are smooth, even, and aligned correctly.
For instance, if a ship’s hull has developed uneven surfaces due to wear and tear, the ship will need to undergo fairing up process to smooth out the surfaces. This, in turn, ensures the ship is more aerodynamic, reduces drag and makes the ship more fuel-efficient.
