Nautical Term: Fog-bound

Definition of Fog-bound

1. Referred to as ‘fog-bound,” when a ship is compelled to halt its progress or come to rest at an anchor due to the obstructive presence of fog.

Example: Despite making steady progress towards the Port of Liverpool, the container ship, Victoria Star, found itself ‘fog-bound’ when a dense fog rolled in from the North Sea. Unable to continue its voyage, the Victoria Star was forced to heave to and wait out the fog before it could resume its journey to Liverpool.
