Nautical Term: FPD

Definition of FPD

Fall Preventing Device (FPD) refers to a safety equipment designed to prevent a fall from a height, such as a ship’s deck or a construction site. FPDs may include harnesses, lifelines, safety nets, and ladders with built-in fall protection.

For instance, a shipping company may require its crew to use FPDs when working on the ship’s deck. By using FPDs, the crew can prevent falls from heights, reducing the risk of injuries and accidents.
