Definition of Hogging

The term ‘hogging’ refers to the condition where a ship’s hull is bent in a concave downwards direction due to the forces acting upon it. This condition, referred to as hogging, is the opposite of sagging.

For example, during heavy seas, the forces acting on a ship’s hull may cause it to hog, resulting in a loss of stability and potentially endangering the passengers and crew.
