Definition of Hurricane

A hurricane is a powerful cyclonic storm with winds exceeding 64 knots (approximately 74 miles per hour). This extreme force of wind is capable of causing significant destruction to structures and infrastructure, as well as disrupting transportation and communication systems.

For instance, a hurricane making landfall in the Florida Keys could bring destructive winds, heavy rainfall, storm surge, and tornadoes. Such a storm could leave a trail of devastation, including flooded homes, destroyed businesses, and downed power lines.
