Definition of IBTS

Integrated Bilge Treatment System (IBTS): This is an advanced marine system designed to effectively treat and manage bilge water onboard ships. IBTS utilizes a combination of methods, including the use of biocides, filtration, and aeration, to break down and eliminate contaminants in the bilge water. For instance, a container ship could use an IBTS to maintain the bilge water quality, preventing the accumulation of harmful substances, such as heavy metals and oils, which could pose a threat to the marine environment and the health of crew members.
