A journal, in the context of nautical terminology, refers to a written record of a ship’s voyage. This record includes detailed entries of the ship’s position, course, speed, weather conditions, and other significant events during the voyage.

Example of Use:

On June 15, 1832, the brigantine ‘Sea Breeze’ departed from the Port of Boston with a cargo of lumber and fish. The ship’s journal records that on June 17, the ‘Sea Breeze’ encountered a violent storm with heavy rain, thunder, and lightning. The ship’s sails were torn to shreds, and the crew struggled to keep the ship afloat and on course through the storm.
