Nautical Term: Knuckle line

Definition of Knuckle line

A knuckle line is a specific line located on the stern of a ship. This line runs along the cant frames and acts as a divider between the upper and lower parts of the stern.!

Example: During a rough sea passage, the stern of the cargo ship began to take on water. The crew quickly identified the source of the water intrusion as a crack in the stern knuckle line. With the help of a local shipyard, the crew was able to repair the damaged line and prevent further water intrusion into the ship’s stern.
