Definition of Man ropes

Man ropes are lengthy and sturdy ropes, specifically designed for use in the ascent or descent of a vessel. These ropes are often hung at strategic locations around the ship, and may be used in conjunction with other equipment, such as ladders or stages. For instance, during a docking procedure, a crew member may use a man rope to make their way from the ship to the dock or vice versa.
