Nautical Term: PLEM

Definition of PLEM

A Pipeline End Manifold, also known as a PLEM, is a key component used at the termination point of an underwater oil or gas pipeline. This manifold allows for the connection of the pipeline to the production platform or onshore facility, thereby enabling the transfer of hydrocarbons from the subsea pipeline to the processing facilities for eventual distribution to markets and consumers.

For example: The Pipeline End Manifold (PLEM) installed at the terminus of the subsea natural gas pipeline was successfully connected to the production platform’s compressor system during the scheduled maintenance period. The PLEM’s precise design, high-quality materials, and meticulous manufacturing process ensured that the connection between the pipeline and the platform was secure and free of leaks. This successful connection enabled the resumption of natural gas production and delivery to markets and consumers.
