A port hole is a designated opening in the protective outer plating of a ship. This opening provides access to the interior of the vessel while keeping the external elements at bay.

For instance, a sailor might need to check the bilge pump for any potential issues. To do this, they would navigate to the nearest port hole, lean out, and assess the status of the bilge pump.
