Nautical Term: Comehome

Definition of Comehome

The term ‘Comehome’ refers to the convex curvature found on the rake sides of a barge. This specific curvature is responsible for creating a narrower beam at the headlog, compared to the beam of the hull itself. For instance, imagine a barge with an overall beam of 20 feet. However, due to the ‘Comehome’ effect, the beam at the headlog is only 18 feet.
