Definition of PWSA

The Ports and Waterways Safety Act (PWSA) is a comprehensive legislative framework aimed at promoting safety in ports and waterways. This Act applies to all Canadian ports and waterways, as well as to ships and other vessels operating within these waters. For instance, in an emergency situation, the PWSA grants certain powers to the Master of a ship or the Harbour Master, enabling them to take necessary measures to protect lives, properties, and the environment.
