Definition of Set up rigging

To properly secure the standing rigging on a ship, one must first take in the slack in the rigging lines. Once the rigging lines are taut, the standing rigging can be adequately secured. For instance, a sailor may tighten the shackles on the standing rigging wires, ensuring that they remain firmly in place as the ship sails through rough waters.
