Nautical Term: Staging
Definition of Staging
Staging refers to the upright supports that are fastened together to create a stable and secure working platform. These supports are formed by horizontally and diagonally braced planks.
For instance, in the process of repairing or maintaining a ship, sailors may need to work at great heights to access the upper decks or the rigging. To ensure their safety, sailors would set up staging along the sides of the ship. This staging would provide a stable and secure working platform for the sailors as they carry out their repair and maintenance tasks at height.
