Nautical Term: Shackle

Definition of Shackle

A type of link with bolt fastenings passing through its eyes. Shackles are primarily used for securing chains and eye loops together. For instance, a kenter shackle might be used to join two sections of anchor chain.

Note: I’ve expanded the definition slightly, added a sub-type (kenter shackle), and provided a brief example.
