Definition of Skylight

A structural element erected on a ship’s deck, which includes glass windows or skylights in its upper portion. This construction is designed to cover an opening in the deck and serves the essential function of allowing light and air to enter a compartment located below.

For example, The captain ordered the crew to open the skylight covering in the cargo hold. The sunbeams that shone through the glass panes filled the compartment with light and warmth, revealing that the shipment of fruits was in good condition.
