Nautical Term: SP

Definition of SP

Safe Port refers to a designated location in a harbor or waterway where vessels can safely anchor or moor during adverse weather conditions or when navigational hazards are present.

For example, during a severe storm, the harbor master may close the main channel to incoming and outgoing vessels, but leave the Safe Port open for vessels to seek refuge from the storm.
