Nautical Term: Squeegee

Definition of Squeegee

A squeegee, is a deck-drying tool. This tool consists of a flat, wide piece of wood, typically shod with a thick layer of rubber for enhanced grip and durability. The tool also includes a handle, often made of metal or sturdy plastic, which allows the user to apply significant pressure to the tool when squeezing out excess water.

Stanchions, which are often used in conjunction with a squeegee on a boat deck, are upright supports, typically made of either wood or metal. These supports serve multiple functions, including providing a stable, secure structure for boat passengers to hold onto when moving about the deck, and also serving as a functional anchor point for securing various items to the boat deck, such as safety equipment, anchor lines, or even decorative flags or pennants.
