Definition of Net registered tonnage
Net Registered Tonnage refers to a calculation-based measurement of the internal, enclosed volume of a vessel. This measurement excludes spaces designated for machinery, navigation equipment, and accommodation.
Net Registered Tonnage is always less than the vessel’s Gross Registered Tonnage. This difference exists because the net tonnage calculation takes into account the actual space available for cargo, while the gross tonnage measurement includes all enclosed interior spaces of the vessel, including those used for machinery, equipment, and accommodations.
