Definition of STCW

The ‘Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping’ (STCW) refers to a set of international guidelines for training, certification, and watchkeeping (responsibilities and duties of a crew member during their watch) for seafarers.

For instance, in a shipping company’s policy, it may state that all seafarers employed by the company must possess the STCW certificates that correspond to their designated job roles onboard the ships.
