Nautical Term: Tuck

Definition of Tuck

The term ‘tuck’ refers to the area at the after part of a ship where the stern plating meets and is tucked together. This refers to the overlapping and securing of the adjacent plating to ensure the integrity and watertightness of the ship’s structure.

For instance, during a routine inspection, the ship’s crew noticed a crack on the after plating. In response, they secured the area by tightly tucking the overlapping plating to ensure a watertight seal, thus preventing any further water ingress.
