Nautical Term: GPC

Definition of GPC

The General Purposes Committee (GPC) is a subcommittee on a ship or in a maritime organization. Its primary role is to oversee and manage the organization’s general affairs, as opposed to specific technical or operational matters.

For example, on a large cargo ship, the GPC may be responsible for managing the ship’s stores and provisions, ensuring that all required paperwork and documentation is in order, and overseeing the crew’s welfare and morale.
