Definition of Turrets
Turrets are specialized structures designed for the mounting and handling of the primary battery guns and their associated accessories on board a warship. Turrets are constructed to rotate around a vertical axis, usually through the use of electrical or hydraulic machinery.
For instance, during a naval battle, the captain of a battleship might order the gunnery crew to engage the enemy by quickly targeting and firing the ship’s main battery guns, which are mounted on the turrets. After each shot, the turret would need to be re-aimed and re-targeted before the next shot could be fired.
